Sightings: New Orleans Saints Custom Mouthpieces (Pure Power Mouthguards)

ppm
If you watched Monday Night Football (Saints v. Falcons; great game), you caught John Gruden go on about a special mouthpiece that the Saints were wearing that actually improved flexibility and range of motion. My first thought: C’mon son. However, the spine aligning mouthguard actually exists. In fact, the Pure Power Mouthguard (ppm) boasts improved strength and balance, explosive speed, “turn on a dime” agility and even faster recovery! This would explain the NBA’s newest obsession with mouthpieces. Read More to get the skinny.

Invented by neuromuscular dentist Dr. Anil Makkar, the Makkar PPM™ is a sports appliance that is custom-designed and manufactured to each individual athlete/user. The Makkar PPM™ naturally aligns the athlete’s jaw, and in doing so, has been shown to enhance explosive power, balance, range of motion, flexibility, endurance and oxygen flow during training and competition, allowing the user to maximize their performance.

The process of properly aligning the jaw position is based on the principles of Neuro-muscular Dentistry, which indicate that a “good” bite is achieved when the muscles of the face, jaw and neck are allowed to be at their most efficient state, which is a restful state. What we have observed, and demonstrate time and again, is an immediate improvement in posture, range of motion, flexibility, balance, and strength. Our users have reported to us increased endurance and faster recovery. We believe that these results flow from a combination of factors, including a more efficiently functioning neuromusculature, and enhanced oxygen flow through an increased airway. The various and many testimonials by prominent athletes in several sports appear elsewhere on this website. They all relate immediate and substantial improvement in performance. Makkar Advantage.com

Shaq, T.O. and a host of Golfers1 stand behind it. What say you?

    1. Samuel Stewart

      Send me some information.

    2. Jon Gruden was so impressed with the mouthguard technology he got one himself.

    3. It is the Neuromuscular part that makes it more than just a mouthguard.
      It’s doing double duty! Quite amazing!!

    4. How can so many professional athletes be so wrong?? They can’t!!! This mouth piece works. There are many imitations. PPM is the real deal. I am not PPM certified yet, so I have nothing to gain by saying this. I have been following this very carefully, and have even had the pen test done on myself. I am going to get a PPM for myself, and then I am going to get certified. Shaq has one! The Saints have them! Terrell Owens has one! Many professional and non-professional athletes have them and have seen improvements. We can only wait and see who will be the next to have one???

    5. Yeah, even in paradise we have a saint. But this neuromuscular device is great at all levels. Top of the line down to an intro level. Check it out at makkaradvantage .com. Would be great to have the University of Hawaii check this out as their record isn’t very healthy. Or even at the highschool level. This is the athlete device for sports. Aloha.

      @Sam: All I’ve got is the link above.

      @Dan: Neuromuscular sounds like space modulator. Not sure if I’m buying it, both literally and figuratively.

      @James: I’m not convinced that TO and Shaq aren’t paid to endorse this product, not that I’m a naysayer, but I am a skeptic. Seems to place a lot of weight on your bite as a stabilizer for your whole body and that’s what’s tough to chew (pun intended).

      @Robert: ?

    7. To respond to James and Dan who are skeptical….I can totally understand their skepticism. Hey. I was one for many years. Until I learned Neuromuscular Dentistry and used it for a few years. It was incredible that I could solve people’s headache and other problems when neurologists had given up. So that is all I do full time for 10 years now. There are plenty of case histories on my website. http://www.MidwestHeadches.com. Most dentists don’t know this and remain skeptical and unaware.

      Think about this. How the teeth come together often has no relationship to how the lower jaw aligns with the upper jaw. It is simply a position where we can best put our teeth together and chew food.

      If it takes muscle effort to just bring the teeth together, other connected muscles are also over worked and tight. This includes muscles that posture head and neck that are function together with jaw muscles. When the neck is misaligned, it affects airway and blood flow to brain itself.

      What Dr. Anil Makkar has done is to bring proven scientific principles that have been used for 40 years to help people with “incurable” headaches and other jaw pain issues…and applied to improving athletic performance.

      The science has been there all along. Dr. Makkar’s genius is in applying it to athletics.

      This MORA technology was developed in the 80’s in Boston and used on the N.E. Patriots for over two decades. ESPN reported on the Patriots guard in 2006, Makker stumbled on the idea apparently. The difference is, they cost $2k and its arbitrary jaw position has no history in contact sport. Maher mouth guards are covered by some insurers for the prevention of concussion and cost between $200-$450, the NHL’s workers comp is paying to keep players off their payrolls. The Academy of Sport Dentistry has supported all efforts to reduce concussion, not strength enhancement like PPM or Under Armour. http://www.mahercor.com has more articles on this.

    11. Teech, just to give you credit , thanks , I copies some of your post to my blog page.
      This product really does work, the proof will always be in the performance

      @Steve,

      Thanks for the response. 2K?! Even the $200 Maher sounds excessive for a piece of molded rubber.

      @Steve Schwam: Thanks for the reference. Toss up a link/pingback if you can!

    13. I plan on getting on for use while I’m Twittering, Facebooking, and otherwise social networking. It will be great at the office too.

      Seriously, it’s an interesting device and probably helps to focus breathing and physical exertion on a more effective workout while minimizing our tendency to psyche ourselves out given the strain of the workout.
